The Original Pantry Cafe, an iconic staple of downtown life, closed last year after a century of serving coffee, pancakes, steaks, garlic bread and more 24 hours a day. Once owned by L.A. Mayor Richard Riordan, it was shuttered due to disputes between unions and Riordan’s estate. But the landmark is getting a new lease on life – and helping others get a new lease on life. The restaurant will reopen soon under the direction of Hope the Mission. CEO Ken Craft says it will serve up the same menu and classic experience as always (with some healthier options) and 100% of the profits will go directly to Hope the Mission and its efforts to end homelessness in Los Angeles. “Just as Hope the Mission is built on the belief that everyone deserves a second chance, we believe the Original Pantry Cafe deserves one too. A second life. A renewed purpose.
