At New Direction for Youth’s 50th Anniversary Gala, Dennis Zine, right, was honored with the Boeckmann Spirit of Hope Award for his lifelong commitment to uplifting children and families facing significant challenges.
With more than 60 years of service to Los Angeles as an LAPD officer, Charter Reform Commissioner, and City Council-member, Zine has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to community.
A longtime supporter of New Directions for Youth and an NDY Board member since 2017, Zine has contributed his security expertise, fundraising support, and hands-on help, including food deliveries to at-risk youth during the COVID-19 pandemic.
His leadership, creativity, and deep community insight have greatly strengthened NDY’s programs and staff morale.
Proud of his roots and inspired by his parents’ example, Zine has devoted his career to public service. He is equally proud of his two sons: Christopher, a Captain in the LAPD, and Eric, a Captain with Alaska Airlines.
