Calabasas and Woodland Hills residents and businesses have reported a rash of fake $100 bills being circulated in the area. The front of the bill looks exactly like real money, but the back reads “Motion Picture Purposes” at the top. Merchants are cautioned to thoroughly inspect all bills. If you receive one of the fake $100s you should not return it or attempt to spend it, as knowingly passing counterfeit money is a federal crime. The correct procedure is to report the bill to the police. Unfortunately the money represents a loss, as you won’t be reimbursed for your fake bill. Your bank can verify if it’s fake but they will not replace it. Instead they will confiscate it and report it.
