Aspiring and/or established writers especially interested in science fiction, are invited to attend a special in person presentation given by author/screenwriter and teacher Greg Elliot entitled “Creating, Increasing, and Keeping Tension, and Avoiding the Quicksand of Letting that Tension Dissolve.”
The event will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, September 6 at The San Fernando Valley Branch of the California Writers Club at the Motion Picture & Television Fund, Saban Center, 23388 Mulholland Drive in Woodland Hills (just off the 101 Freeway).
The presentation will also be carried on Zoom.
Free snacks will be served. There is also ample free parking.
Elliott will discuss the various ways that writers can create tension, but more importantly how to maintain that tension and avoid “speed bump” words that while seemingly adding to the tension can actually detract from it.
A member of Writers Guild of America, his credits include Star Trek: Voyager (UPN), for which he received a Sci-Fi Universe Award nomination for best TV writing, story editor for Savanah (WB), executive story editor for Charmed, (WB) and he wrote for Heartbeat (Disney Channel).
Simon & Schuster published Elliott’s YA novel Demon Doppelgangers, and also a short story of his in their collection The Warren Witches. For 15 years, he taught writing for television for the UCLA Extension Writers’ program, where in 2014 he was named Instructor of the Year. For two years he gave a series of seminars on writing to the Military Writers Society of America. He continues to teach television writing, and to write novels and short stories.
