Originally built in 1946, Harter Hall is beginning a new chapter after a volunteer-led renovation of the historic Woodland Hills gathering space.
For almost 80 years, Harter Hall has served the surrounding community. Now, with updated sound, lighting, stage, furnishings and other improvements, the hall is being reimagined as an intimate home for live music, children’s concerts and special events.
The newly renovated venue will launch its programming on Saturday, September 12, with the first event in the new Harter Hall Music Series.
The evening begins at 7 pm with a neighborhood social hour, giving guests a chance to gather before the music, with local food trucks and drinks by Barlingual.
The concert follows with a jazz symposium featuring Sharlotte Gibson, celebrating the legendary collaboration between Sarah Vaughan and Clifford Brown in Harter Hall’s intimate cabaret-style setting.
The renovation and new programming have been shaped largely through a volunteer effort led by music producers Wayne Wilkins and Gerrit Kinkel, bringing together members of the community and professionals from the music, entertainment and arts industries.
“We want Harter Hall to feel like something the community built together — a place to hear extraordinary live music, introduce children to the arts, meet your neighbors and experience great artists up close.”
Future programming will include jazz to classical music concerts, children’s cultural concerts, comedy, theater and special community events.
