Valley News Group was recently featured in the City of LA Legacy Business Program for their 43 years publishing local papers.
Publisher Kathleen Bercsi Sterling (front row center at right with staff) founded the Warner Center News in 1982 to serve the burgeoning business community of the west valley. The monthly paper focused on the new companies and new development of the area, including a new Marriott hotel, the Trillium Towers and more.
She met her husband Rodger Sterling in 1985, and in 1990 they re-started the Las Virgenes/Calabasas Enterprise, which Sterling had sold to the Hearst Corporation in 1983 – who quickly bankrupted it, along with several Los Angeles local papers.
Together they purchased and ran the Valley Vantage for the residents of Woodland Hills.
After Sterling’s death in 2009, Bercsi-Sterling and their daughter founded the Encino Enterprise in 2019, where Kaitlin Sterling is still the Editor.
The newest addition to Valley News Group’s lineup is North Valley News, which covers Chatsworth, Northridge, Porter Ranch and Granada Hills.
Warner Center News, Calabasas Enterprise and Valley Vantage are all published weekly, and Valley Vantage is adjudicated to publish legal notices for all Los Angeles County.
Encino Enterprise and North Valley News are published twice a month, on the first and third Fridays.
All papers adhere to what Sterling calls hyper-local news of the community, focusing on the people, businesses, real estate, entertainment and health issues facing the valley.
“People want to know what is going on right in their own community – down the street and around the corner. We don’t cover national news or the president, unless he comes to the valley – which several have. We keep everything local, and have for the last 43 years, and it’s working!” said Sterling.
