With the recent broadcast of the Golden Globes, awards season in Los Angeles has officially kicked off. Comedian Nikki Glaser hosted the ceremony in which both the best of television and the best of film were honored – but as she joked, major A-list actors have gravitated towards television so that the distinction between mediums has definitely blurred.
Glaser not only made award show history by being the first female to host the Golden Globes solo, but critics have raved about her ability to strike a perfect balance of mocking and celebrating the nominees. Is it too much to hope that this “Pope-ular” host will return next year?!
While Glaser stole the show, there were two clear winners who swept in their categories: The Brutalist, a three-and-a-half-hour drama that includes its own intermission, and Shogun, an FX television drama set in Japan in the year 1600. And truly, was it a surprise to anyone that Wicked won the Golden Globe for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award, aka, the common man’s most popular choice? It’s the “movie, not a film category” if you will.
