Calabasas Mayor James Bozajian is reporting that on December 15th, the Calabasas Landfill case — the contested matter involving the deposit of hazardous fire debris into the landfill — proceeded to trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court (City of Calabasas v. County of Los Angeles). Earlier that same day, the presiding judicial officer issued a tentative, written decision in favor of the county. In civil matters, judges often release tentative decisions prior to trial. As its name implies, this was only an indication of how the judge is inclined to rule based on the various pre-trial submissions by the parties. After the trial, the judge took the matter under consideration, stating that he would render a formal ruling on or before January 5, 2026. The judge has the option of adopting the tentative decision in whole or in part, or abandoning it altogether in favor of an alternative holding.
