Pedestrian Killed on Ventura Blvd.

  • by

A woman was struck and killed on Ventura Blvd. last Thursday, closing down the street while officers investigated the fatal accident. The driver did stop at the scene, as did another car that appeared to have rear-ended the car that hit her. According to witnesses, paramedics did CPR on site but she died shortly after. One person reported that she was not homeless but lived nearby, and went to notify her family. The accident took place right by Smart and Final at Ponce Street, where a traffic signal had been installed months ago but never activated. Valley News Group reached out to Councilman Bob Blumenfield’s office about the light, and they responded, saying, “DOT told us today that the lights are set to be turned on next week. As you know, we have been pushing for a long time to get the final lights turned on. It is beyond unacceptable to have to wait this long. So many community members worked with  us to get this project moving forward and it was not easy to secure the funds but it got done. The fact that there was another traffic death in this area is, again, beyond unacceptable and our hearts are with her family. We will do some more digging on what exactly caused this delay. “
