This year marks the centennial of late jazz master John Coltrane’s birth. The saxophonist, bandleader, and composer revolutionized jazz and has long been considered one of the most influential figures in American music.
Honoring his legacy, Dianne Reeves unites with the Branford Marsalis Quartet at The Soraya on October 8 for their take on Coltrane’s one and only record with a vocalist, his 1963 collaboration with baritone Johnny Hartman.
Marsalis, an acclaimed saxophonist and composer, and Reeves, “the most admired jazz diva since the heyday of Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday” (The New York Times), return to The Soraya following the anticipated release of their Coltrane tribute album on Blue Note Records.
The performance will begin at 8 pm. Tickets range from $59 to $104.
The Soraya is located at 18111 Nordhoff Street on the campus of Cal State Northridge. For more information on the Soraya’s new season or to purchase tickets call (818) 677-3000 or visit the soraya.org.
