The Wall That Heals, the replica of the Vietnam memorial, will open at Pierce College on Thursday, March 19. The opening ceremony at 6 pm includes an introduction by Master of Ceremony Sgt. Bob Donovan, USAF 1966-1970, Crash Rescue, posting of the colors by the Reseda High NJROTC Color Guard. The Pledge of Allegiance will be followed by the National Anthem sung by the Pierce College Choir. There will be an invocation and the speakers include an Army nurse and Gold Star son. The event will conclude with U.S. military branch hymns, a POW/MIA table ceremony, rifle salute and taps.
The event is free with free parking. The wall is available to visit 24 hours a day and the exhibit closes on March 22.
A Light the Night candlelight ceremony will be held on March 20 at 7 pm. Master of Ceremony will be the Hon. Victor E. Bianchini. An invocation will be given by Chaplain Martin Morehous, LAPD Chaplain. Speakers include Sergeant Marc Thurston, U.S. Army 1967 -1969, an accredited Veterans Service Officer (JWV), Sepulveda Veterans Center, a Judge of the Superior Court (Ret.), a U.S. Magistrate Judge (Ret.) and a Colonel, U.S. Marine Corp (Ret.). There will be a PTSD awareness in-memory ceremony, bagpipes from John Thomas and taps played by Spencer Munroe, Pierce College Applied Music Program student.
The closing ceremony will be held March 22 at 1:45 pm. Master of Ceremony will be Arny Krane, Vietnam 1966 – 1972. Speakers will include Earl Roth, Commander, Jewish War Veterans Post 603 U.S. Army 1960 – 1964, and Aracely Aguiar, MBA President, Pierce College. Retiring the Colors will be done by the Reseda High School NJROTC Color Guard and Taps will be played by Angelo Waterhouse, L. A. Pierce College, Applied Music Program Student.
