The California Supreme Court upheld the prior ruling in the case of drug dealer John Creech, who was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Gavin Smith in 2017. Smith was a West Hills resident and 20th Century Fox executive who disappeared. He was missing over two years until his remains were found in the Angeles National Forest. Creech submitted a defense petition seeking review of his case based on what he claimed was the trial court’s barring evidence of Smith’s “violent” character. The court denied the petition saying the report does not support this claim. Creech is serving time in state prison.
