Sports Broadcaster and Dodger Legend Ross Porter Honored

Longtime West Valley resident and former Dodgers’ announcer Ross Porter, above, was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Southern California Sports Broadcasters.

Porter started his career at age 21 at WY Radio and Television in Oklahoma City. At 27 he landed at KNBC in Los Angeles, which led to national recognition, and he joined NBC sports announcing NFL football and Pacific 8 college basketball. 

He joined the Dodgers in 1977 and through 2004 was a beloved figure synonymous with the team, his voice echoing through Dodger Stadium, living rooms and car radios, bringing the game to life for countless fans. He also hosted “Dodger Talk” for 14 years, a pre- and post-game show where he interviewed players, coaches and other figures, offering insightful commentary and analysis.

Currently Porter keeps in touch with fans through two sports sites – Ross Porter Sports on Facebook and Ross Porter Sports Videos on YouTube with his scores of interviews over 50 years.
