
Saturday afternoon a mob of approximately 30 individuals in masks and hoodies stormed Nordstrom Topanga. A security guard was sprayed with bear spray as the group entered. Security video shows the gang smashing display cases and grabbing merchandise before fleeing the store in vehicles including a BMW, Lexus and Honda. The thieves got away with almost $100,000 in merchandise. This same store had a smash and grab mob do the same thing back in 2021. A similar mob attack occured at the Yves St. Laurent store at the Americana at Brand on August 8. Mayor Karen Bass said, “The Los Angeles Police Department will continue to work to not only find those responsible for this incident but to prevent these attacks on retailers from happening in the future.” Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon, whom many point to as part of the increasing crime problem due to his “no cash bail” directive, said, “We view this as organized crime and will use every tool under the law to make sure arrests are made.”
