The parents of an eight-year-old girl are suing Sierra Canyon school in Chatsworth over allegations their daughter was sexually assaulted by older students. They claim that a so-called “Kissing Club” that took place in the school bathroom pressured younger students into kissing and other forms of sexual assault. They also claim that school staff learned of the activity on students’ cellphones but failed to notify parents and law enforcement. “As a mother, the feeling of being hopeless and not being able to protect my child from this harm that 100% could have been avoided is crushing. My focus is on the systems and the safeguard that have failed to protect my child,” said the victim’s mother. The ringleader of the club reportedly was not expelled but no longer attends Sierra Canyon. The school has not released a statement on the lawsuit.
