I am so proud of our Woodland Hills Rotary Club of superheroes and the heart each member brings to our community. August was a month packed with service, fellowship, and plenty of smiles, and we truly lived our motto: Unite for Good. In just the past two weeks, our members came together to make a real difference—offering hands-on help, creating opportunities to connect, and lifting up those who needed support. Every project reminded us why we do what we do: because when we serve, everyone wins.
We began with an evening at the Rescue Mission, where on Tuesday the 19th, our team prepped, cooked, served, and even stayed behind to wash dishes. It was more than just providing a hot meal—it was about creating a warm atmosphere of dignity and care for those facing hard times. The kids’ painting project was a major winner. The very next night, Wednesday the 20th, we were back in action at LAJH Eisenberg Village, hosting another energetic bingo night. Residents eagerly awaited the prizes, the laughter, and most of all, the chance to engage in joyful community fun. Seeing their faces light up was truly priceless.
Saturday the 23rd brought us to the District Picnic, a gathering full of camaraderie, fun, and friendly competition. Our own Steve and Ethan bravely took on the Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta—though, as they proved, sailing may not be their strong suit! Despite finishing last, the laughter and spirit of the event more than made up for it. That week we raised over $1,000 through our “bail money” fundraiser for the mischievous pink flamingos. It was a lighthearted way to support serious causes, and everyone left with smiles.
On Monday the 25th, we turned our focus to foster youth who had transitioned out of the system. We delivered full duffle bags packed with essentials, along with sweet desserts to brighten their day. For 38 young people, these small gifts were reminders that their community sees them, values them, and believes in their future. Just a few days later, on Wednesday the 27th, we were honored to welcome our District Governor, Alex Parajon, for his official visit. It was a proud moment as we also introduced our Youth Exchange Student, Kitoko from Japan, who will spend the year with a host family and experience both Rotary service and life in our community. The excitement of cultural exchange always strengthens our club. We celebrated growth as we inducted a new member into our Rotary family—proof that our mission continues to inspire others to get involved.
Finally, on Sunday the 31st, we closed out the month with a heartfelt project at the Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles. There, our club prepared and served a great lunch for families whose children are receiving care at Children’s Hospital. It was a moving reminder of the challenges these families face, and how a simple meal and a kind word can make their day a little brighter.
Looking back on August, it’s incredible to see all we accomplished together. From serving meals and delivering essentials, to building fellowship and supporting youth, our club showed once again that service is not just what we do—it’s who we are.
