Rebecca Grossman, convicted of second degree murder in the 2020 deaths of Jacob and Mark Iskander, was sentenced Monday.
She received a sentence of 15 years to life, though prosecutors had demanded the maximum of 34 years to life.
The brothers were killed when Grossman hit them in the crosswalk with her car when speeding down a Westlake Boulevard street. The parents and another sibling were witnesses to the accident.
The boys’ mother, Nancy Iskander, told KABC News the judge’s sentence of 15 to life was “like a stab in my heart. In two different ways. The first way was that he lumped both boys as if they were one. And they were not. If you ask any parent, they will tell you their kids are not the same person. They’re different. They have two different personalities,” she added. “Especially kids who had their whole lives in front of them. You can’t count them two for one. It’s extremely unfair.”
