On Saturday, June 14, Americans from coast to coast marked “No Kings Day” with peaceful protests demanding the preservation of democracy and a rejection of authoritarianism. More than 11 million people participated nationwide, inclu-ding a powerful turnout in Canoga Park.
Over 1,000 people showed up at the corner of Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Victory adjacent to Westfield Topanga. Protesters held signs and waved at passing cars, many of which honked in solidarity.
There were no reports of violence, in fact those at the rally reported that the crowd was friendly and helpful to each other, with certain groups passing out water bottles.
In Studio City, an estimated 5,000 demonstrators gathered at Ventura Boulevard and Laurel Canyon. The event, organized by the SFV Indivisible Organization, stretched nearly 10 blocks west and four blocks east along Ventura, drawing a sea of American flags, protest signs, drums, and high spirits. Valley News Group reporter Mark Hovater said that, “The tone was peaceful, energetic, and unified, as people of all backgrounds came together to raise their voices. The Studio City protest stood out not only for its size but for its overwhelming positivity.
Attendees arrived early, filling sidewalks and spilling into the streets with smiles, chants, and a sense of purpose. Despite the crowd, the event remained well-coordinated and safe, a testament to strong local organizing.”
