The tagged mountain lion known as P-89 was found dead Monday on the 101 Freeway in Woodland Hills. The two-year-old male was hit around 2 am on the shoulder of the freeway between DeSoto and Winnetka. He is the fourth mountain lion killed on a highway this year. Another cougar was killed in March on PCH and in June P-54 was killed on Las Virgenes Road. Her offspring had been killed on the 405 in April. All were part of the Santa Monica Mountains puma tracking project. Though none of these mountain lions were near the site, the recent death is another argument for the supporters of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing at Liberty Canyon which will open in 2025.
