It’s kitten season and mountain lions are no exception! P-54, who lives in the Santa Monica Mountains, just gave birth to a litter of three kittens. While adorable, biologists are thrilled that this litter may be bringing much needed genetic diversity thanks to the father, P-63, the only adult male radio-collared mountain lion. Each kitten (male P-82, male P-83 and female P-84) has been tagged and returned but not before samples were taken for genetic testing to rule out possible inbreeding. The National Park Service will continue to monitor the lions to see how they adapt and thrive.
