Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival Blows Into L.A. June 15 & 16

  • by

Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival is celebrating 44 years this coming Father’s Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16. The festival is co-curated by jazz titans Herbie Hancock and Kamasi Washington, frequent collaborators who performed together at the Bowl in August 2017.

Oscar and 14-time Grammy winner Hancock is the LA Phil’s Creative Chair for Jazz and has been performing at the Bowl for seven decades and continues to reimagine jazz. Bringing the lineage of hard bop and spiritual jazz into the 21st century with a decidedly contemporary musical approach, Grammy- and Emmy-nominated LA native Hancock is not scheduled to perform at the festival, but will be returning to the Bowl August 14.

Comedian and talk show host Arsenio Hall will host both days of the festival, which starts at 3:30 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s   lineup includes Jodeci, Christian McBride, Charles Lloyd with Jason Moran, Larry Grenadier, Brian Blade, Mulatu Astatke, Alex Isley, Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz Performance at UCLA and  The LA County High School for the Arts Jazz.

Sunday’s performers include Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper with special guest Yebba, Cory Henry, Soul Rebels with special guest Seun Kuti, Baby Rose, Brian Blade & the Fellowship Band, Aneesa Strings, LAUSD Beyond the Bell All-City Jazz Big Band.

Tickets for the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival are available online at hollywoodbowl.com or by phone at 323 850 2000. Programs, artists, dates, prices and availability are subject to change.
