Dear Neighbor,
Since I was first elected to the State Legislature four years ago, I’ve been working hard to deliver for the Valley and to ensure that we receive our fair share of state resources and funding. I’ve also made an effort to champion legislation that addresses the biggest challenges facing our community. With that in mind, I’m proud to share that in recent weeks Governor Newson signed into law ten bills that I authored on a variety of topics, including public safety, climate change, homelessness, gun violence prevention, hate crimes, and more. These bills include:
*Assembly Bill (AB) 587 – requires major social media platforms to disclose key information about how they address hate speech, disinformation, and conspiracy theories
*AB 1384 – strengthens California’s response to climate change by improving governance, goals, and metrics to ensure that the state meets its climate adaptation goals
*AB 1664 – extends and strengthens California’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which provides critical security assistance to nonprofits at risk of hate-motivated violence
*AB 1929 – leverages federal dollars to fund evidence-based public health programs proven to stop cycles of gun violence
*AB 1991 – helps to provide extended shelter for homeless families
*AB 2000 – cracks down on street racing and illegal sideshows
*AB 2072 – enables local school districts to better serve students with mental health issues, particularly during emergencies
*AB 2142 – provides tax incentives to promote water conservation and drought-tolerant landscaping
*AB 2193 – improves access to legal aid for low-income undocumented Californians
*AB 2683 – strengthens and expands sexual violence prevention training for California college students
I’m also proud to have co-authored dozens of additional measures and to have helped direct billions of dollars in state funding to urgent priorities. While we face extraordinary challenges, I am optimistic that with determination, focus, and innovative public policies we can build a better future for all of our children.
