On May 7, Barbara Roisman Cooper and Martin Cooper, above, left and right, were recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Executive Vice President of Academy Collection and Preservation Matt Severson (center) during a reception at the Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library for their outstanding philanthropic and other support of the Academy Foundation. The gathering included a display of special collection materials from the Margaret Herrick Library and a demonstration by the Academy’s Associate Director of Library Conservation Dawn Jaros about the team’s conservation work and process. The Coopers are Academy Museum Founding Donors and are recognized on the wall of the Sidney Poitier Lobby and as supporters of the Academy Museum’s core exhibition, Stories of Cinema. They have also made a gift to support the Academy Museum’s exhibition Hollywoodland: Jewish Founders and the Making of a Movie Capital and have made multiple gifts to the Margaret Herrick Library to support the collections. The Coopers have been lifelong film enthusiasts and are both published authors. Barbara has had six books on British film and stage published and Martin is currently finishing his fifth book, covering the film history of the San Fernando Valley. The pair hopes to be one of the few couples to attend both the 50th Academy Awards and the upcoming 100th Academy Awards.
