City Council Calls for Van Nuys Airport Specific Plan Citizens Committee

  • by

Van Nuys Airport has both direct and indirect impact across the San Fernando Valley. On February 20, 2024, the Los Angeles City Council adopted a motion (Council File No. 23-1339) that mandates the development of a new Van Nuys Airport (VNY) Specific Plan. This new Plan will consider existing environmental, aeronautical, economical and home environment interests of the City, and specifically the Valley region.

The motion also mandates the formation of the VNY Specific Plan Citizens Advisory Committee which will include at least one representative from CD 2, CD 3, CD 4, CD 5, CD 6 and CD 12.

Council District 6 will be responsible for the formation and operation of this committee. Councilmember Padilla’s office is reaching out to overlapping Neighborhood Councils that have been active on Van Nuys Airport issues to solicit interested stakeholders that would like to be considered for appointment on the committee.

Interested residents should contact their respective Neighborhood Council to submit their interest in participating on the committee.  For organizational and vetting purposes, only candidates submitted by each qualifying Neighborhood Council President will be considered.  For those interested, one mandated qualifying criteria for candidates listed is their ability to demonstrate that they reside in the district their respective Neighborhood Council represents.   To ensure the productivity of the committee, other qualifications are recommended and every resident can inquire with their Neighborhood Council for more details. The deadline for submissions is May 6, 2024.

For more information on this opportunity contact your Neighborhood Council.
