City Approves Elderly Residential Facility on Del Moreno

On August 27, 2026, the Los Angeles City Planning Commission approved construction of a three-story elderly residential care facility at 5353 Del Moreno Drive in Woodland Hills, not to exceed 46 feet in height, comprising 71 rooms, a café, and a physiotherapy center.

The facility is authorized to house up to 142 residents, characterized by the Planning Department as “non-ambulatory and bedridden.” The Woodland Hills Homeowners Organization has objected to the plan saying that there is no fire safety review, the street is too narrow for fire ladder trucks, no required evacuation plan for non-ambulatory residents and dangerously limited egress.

President of WHHO  John Walker said, “This is what the State Legislature has done to our community. They are taking away our right to self-determination and allowing this type of project in a residential area just across from Taft High School. I hope someone will appeal this project, and that our state representatives will recognize that these laws, sold as a compassionate way to create more housing, are in reality seriously harming our family neighborhoods.”
