The San Fernando Valley deserves an Assessor’s Office that works for homeowners, not against them.
For families across the Valley, a home is more than just property. It is often the single biggest investment they will ever make. It is where people raise their children, build financial security, and plan for retirement.
At a time when the cost of living continues to rise and homeowners face growing financial pressure, taxpayers deserve an Assessor who understands that every assessment, every exemption, and every interaction with government matters.
That has been my focus as Los Angeles County Assessor.
The San Fernando Valley is home to hundreds of thousands of homeowners, renters, small businesses, and working families who expect local government to operate fairly, efficiently, and responsibly.
Whether you own a home in Granada Hills, run a small business in Sherman Oaks, or are raising a family in Burbank or Woodland Hills, you should be able to count on an Assessor’s Office that delivers accurate property assessments, protects Proposition 13, and treats taxpayers with professionalism and respect.
Over the past several years, my administration has worked to modernize one of the largest assessment agencies in the nation in order to better serve Valley taxpayers and property owners throughout Los Angeles County.
In 2024, our office successfully launched a new cloud-based assessment platform designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and customer service. That may sound technical, but the impact is very real for taxpayers. The modernization of our systems has helped reduce delays, improve access to information, and make services more responsive for homeowners and businesses who rely on the Assessor’s Office every year.
Government should not make people jump through hoops to get answers about their property or tax assessments. It should work efficiently and reliably. That is exactly what we have focused on delivering.
The results matter because the work of the Assessor’s Office directly affects everyday life in the Valley. Property taxes help fund our schools, public safety services, parks, roads, and local infrastructure. When assessments are handled fairly and responsibly, taxpayers have confidence that the system is working the way it is supposed to.
That responsibility became even more important during the devastating wildfire disasters that impacted Los Angeles County homeowners. Following the fires, our office moved quickly to identify affected properties and provide assessment reductions and property tax relief to families dealing with loss and uncertainty. In total, approximately 23,000 impacted properties were reviewed, with roughly 18,000 receiving assessment reductions representing nearly $12 billion in lowered assessed value.
For many families, that relief mattered at one of the hardest moments of their lives.
In communities across the Valley and surrounding areas, homeowners were already dealing with skyrocketing insurance costs, rebuilding expenses, and financial instability. The last thing they needed was unnecessary government delay or bureaucracy. Our office acted quickly because taxpayers deserve an Assessor who understands that behind every property file is a real family facing real challenges.
That same philosophy guides the way I approach the job every day.
Public trust is earned through competence, accountability, and results not rhetoric. The work of the Assessor’s Office may not always generate headlines, but it has a direct impact on homeowners, seniors, veterans, and small businesses throughout the San Fernando Valley.
