Calabasas Mayor to Be Honored by Chabad

  • by

Calabasas Mayor Alicia Weintraub will be honored by Chabad of Calabasas at their gala fundraiser on June 10.

Chabad Rabbi  Eli Friedman said that they are honoring Weintraub because she is not just a good public servant, but has been wonderful and sincere with her support of Israel, especially the rally she and Councilman David Shapiro organized last October after the Hamas attack.

“She did the right thing at the right time,” said Friedman. “With this gala we want to wake up the community for positive energy and recognize the importance of unity, people getting along and working together in a world that is suffering with infighting.”

The gala at the Canyon Club will feature dinner and a concert  by Jewish performer and singer Benny Friedman, an internationally popular Jewish-Chassidic recording artist. From his humble beginnings as Chazan and Hebrew school instructor at Chabad of Calabasas, he has risen to become one of the most sought-after performers in the Jewish world.  Also performing will be Mordechay Shenvald, an Israeli tank commander and violinist also known as “The Fiddler on a Tank.”

Chabad of Calabasas is a warm and vibrant local Jewish center, beloved to a diverse community, with multiple cultural and national backgrounds and with greatly varying levels of Jewish knowledge and religious observance. Chabad’s focus is on Jewish unity, joyous inclusion and the sacred belief in the power of each individual Mitzvah to change the world for good.
