Calabasas Community Center to Reopen March 16

  • by

The Calabasas Community Center will celebrate a Grand Reopening on Saturday March 16, from 8 am to 6 pm.

The public is invited to attend and tour the facility, participate in a free art, dance or fitness class, and get details about membership and facility rental.

The first 50 people to register onsite for a membership and attend the ribbon cutting at noon that day will win a prize.

The Community Center opened as the Agoura Hills – Calabasas Community Center in 1999 as a joint recreational facility owned by the two cities. The 4.5-acre parcel was deeded to the two cities by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The 30,000-square-foot facility opened with a large multi-purpose room, a gym with basketball, volleyball, and pickleball courts, outdoor patio areas, a fitness center, lounge and study areas, an activity room, exercise studio, rock climbing wall, locker rooms and a kitchen. The facility  closed in 2020 because of health-related restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting loss of income.
In 2022, the Center received grants from Los Angeles County and the Federal government for structural improvements, along with additional funds from the City of Calabasas.
An agreement was also  finalized in 2022 between Agoura and Calabasas whereby Calabasas took responsibility for all operations and maintenance at the Center in exchange for a fee of $1/year to Agoura Hills. The name was then changed from “Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center” to “Calabasas Community Center.” Repairs began in 2023 and were  completed in early 2024.
“The reopening of the Calabasas Community Center is an exciting development for our city. It is an incredible resource for our residents and community to connect, learn, and grow,” said Calabasas Mayor Alicia Weintraub.
“The Community Services team is ecstatic to operate such a beautiful facility and bring programs, events, and services to residents of all ages. Together, we strive to create a vibrant and inclusive community where everyone can find joy, enrichment, and connection,” added Erica Green, Director of Community Services.
The Calabasas Community Center is located at 27040 Malibu Hills Road. For more information visit cityofcalabasas.com/government/community-services-parks-recreation/calabasas-community-center.
