Calabasas City Council Approves New Caruso Development

  • by

The Calabasas City Council voted Wednesday night to approve Council Resolution No. 2023-1880, a request to improve a portion of the Commons at Calabasas as proposed by Caruso, owner of the retail center.

The vote was five to zero in favor of the proposed changes.

Caruso plans to demolish the existing Regency movie theatre on the west side of The Commons, along with part of the surface parking lot and landscaping.

In its place they got approval to construct two new mixed-use buildings with 210,921 square feet. The buildings will hold 119 residential units, with 12 affordable units, and over 24,000 square feet of retail and commercial use.

In addition to new shops and restaurants there will be a paseo with wide sidewalks and landscaping.

Prior to Wednesday’s vote, the Calabasas Planning Commission recommended that the City Council approve the project.
