Doctor Performs First Sleep Apnea Surgery in West Valley

Dr. Marc Kerner and surgical staff from Specialty Surgical Center in Encino  performed the first Inspire Surgery in the West San Fernando Valley this past month.

Inspire therapy is an FDA-approved implantable medical device used to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It serves as a mask-free alternative for individuals with moderate to severe sleep apnea who cannot tolerate or do not benefit from a CPAP Machine (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure.)

Kerner is double board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and The American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.  He is one of only approximately 850 surgeons who have achieved this designation.

Dr. Kerner is on the clinical faculty at UCLA and has attended to teaching medical students and residents at Olive View-UCLA medical center as well as providing courses for advanced sinus and facial plastic surgical techniques.

He was the first to use computer-aided image guided technology for sinus surgery in Aouthern California, the first to introduce powered instrumentation in sinus surgery to UCLA and the community, and balloon sinus technology, as well as introducing platelet gel technology in maxillofacial and facial plastic surgery.
