A murder suspect who fled a crime scene in Washington state had Calabasas on edge when his abandoned car was found in a parking lot on Calabasas Road.
Alexander Lee Rogers allegedly stabbed two people that he worked for as a handyman. Dawn Peters died from her injuries and her brother-in-law, Andrew Peters, is recovering after being critically injured. The motive for the crime is unknown and the weapon used has not been found.
After the attack, Rogers left the state. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, and eluded authorities for a week.
Rogers had recently finished a 20-year stint in prison. He was convicted of attempted murder in the early 2000s for attacking people with a machete.
After his black BMW was found in the 23,000 block of Calabasas Road, Sheriff’s deputies warned he was armed and dangerous and could still be in the area, leading merchants and residents to lock their doors and be vigilant.
Police from Longview, Washington, also advised that they had video evidence of Rogers in the greater Los Angeles area.
There was no known reason for him to have driven more than 1,000 miles to Calabasas, or abandon the car there.
He was spotted in downtown L.A. Tuesday afternoon near Lafayette Park by an alert security guard, who called police. It is not known how he got from Calabasas to the park.
Rogers was detained and taken into custody without incident, and was held at the Olympic Station.
