Last week, Sylvia’s Garden was dedicated on the grounds of New Horizons in North Hills. The special garden was planted in memory of Sylvia Simon. Joel and Sylvia Simon were longtime supporters of the organization, which is dedicated to empowering individuals with special needs to reach their full potential and fulfill their dreams. Joel was a board member, and Executive Director John Brauer, who along with New Horizons’ Development Director Leilani Downer, loved the idea of the garden, said that Joel always, “immediately responded to any requests for help.”
The garden was the brainchild of a small group of friends and New Horizons supporters who thought about sending flowers, an idea that “snowballed into the idea of a beautiful garden.” Committee members are Waltona Manion, Diana Duenas, Mark Levinson and Sue Du Brin (with Joel Simon holding scissors). Not pictured, committee member Liat Cohen.
The garden was created by landscape designer Cheryl Kellough, who donated her services and supervised the installation.
