Monica Sementilli was sentenced to life in prison for plotting the murder of her husband, Woodland Hills resident and hairdresser Fabio Sementilli. She was found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder with special circumstance, allegations of murder for financial gain and murder while lying in wait. Fabio Sementilli was stabbed in January of 2017 in the backyard of the family home they shared with their two daughters – just days before the couple’s 20th wedding anniversary. Monica Sementilli’s lover, Robert Baker, pleaded no contest during his trial, and is serving a life prison sentence without the possibility of parole for forming his own plan to murder Fabio. A third defendant, a parole and probation officer from Oregon, pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 16 years to life. Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman called the killing a “completely senseless murder driven by the defendant’s greed and her lust…. Without her and her plotting, her planning the murder of her husband, he would be alive today,” she said. “She and her lover showed Fabio Sementilli no mercy. She’s not deserving of any mercy of this court.” Monica Sementilli’s family and her daughters, one of whom found Fabio in the backyard, however, continue to claim she is innocent.
