How do you get from Hollywood to Agoura?
Alison Eastwood will tell you it’s on four little paws!
The actress and model is the founder of Eastwood Ranch, an animal rescue and adoption center just off the 101 in Agoura Hills.
Raised with a love of animals, she credits her parents Clint and Maggie, who were always bringing strays home.
Eastwood, it turns out, inherited her parents’ love of both acting and animals. “I started doing rescues in 2012 through a project I started and sold to National Geographic Wild called Animal Intervention. That was a global effort and I decided I wanted to do something locally.”
After all, as an owner of three dogs and four cats, plus being a foster mom to seven kittens and a dog, rescue work was already well underway in her own home. Eastwood decided she’d better look for a bigger place, and found the available land in Agoura while riding her horses nearby.
She built the thoroughly modern, yet old fashioned ranch style facility (a paean to Old Agoura) from scratch, working with an architect who has designed a lot of animal shelters. The non-profit opened last June and is structured with an array of outdoor and indoor kennels and rooms to keep the animals safe and socialized.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Eastwood Ranch rescues dogs and cats from high-kills shelters. They rehabilitate them, vaccinate, spay/neuter, microchip and find them good homes. Currently they have about 20 dogs and 10 cats available for adoption.Eastwood is always looking for donations and volunteers to feed, clean and socialize the animals, and there are always events or fundraising opportunities available. A large event will be held in September.
