Almost 1,000 people joined together Monday, October 7, in Calabasas at a rally for Israel, on the anniversary of the Hamas massacre.
A crowd waving Israeli flags and singing Hatikvah (the hope) national anthem of Israel, listened as speakers from various faiths and organizations talked about being “united for hope.”
The event was organized by Calabasas Mayor Alicia Weintraub and former Mayor and current Councilmember David Shapiro, who organized a similar event last year.
“We organized the event on October 7 to bring the community together in remembrance of the atrocities that occurred one year earlier, to show our support for the people of Israel, and to express solidarity in the call for the release of the hostages,” Weintraub told Valley News Group.
Speakers included Rabbi Eli Friedman of Chabad of Calabasas, Congresswoman Julia Brownley, Rabbi Yacov Vann of Calabasas Shul, Rabbi Lana Zilberman Soloway of Temple Or Ami, Pastor Ross Porter Jr., Rabbi Avi Shulman of Chabad of the Valley, The Commons owner Rick Caruso, UCLA law student Eden Shemuelian, Negin Ghaffari of Calabasas Montessori, LVUSD President Angela Cutbil and Israeli Defense Forces soldier Glenn Heilbronn.
Israeli Scouts led the Pledge of Allegiance and Riley Eichberg sang the national anthem, while DJ Jake Levin played for the event.
